2012 Evans Pinot Noir
Note from the winemaker, Matt Evans:
We thought we had sold out of this 2012 Pinot Noir last year, but we just found 30 bottles of it that we can offer for one last sale. This is a special wine to me - during harvest I was thinking about proposing to Maggie and I made this Pinot Noir intending it to be our wedding wine (hence the name - M&M - which is how many people in Anderson Valley knew us; I think they just forgot our names). The wine turned out beautifully, but then Maggie and I eloped in New Zealand. So instead of drinking it at a wedding, we open this wine any time we're together with friends and family and want an excuse to celebrate. I hope you use it as an excuse to celebrate, too!
Winemaking notes - 2012 was a warm year, the first of the drought years for the vineyard. The crop was picture perfect, and so this was the first Pinot Noir for which I used a large proportion of whole bunches in the fermentation, which I think lends an an extra level of complexity to the aroma and mouthfeel. With 5 years of age this wine is showing very well now, and should improve for another 3-5 years. On my last tasting, I noted bramble fruit balanced against truffles, licorice, and cola, with great palate weight and finish.
Please note: this is a natural wine that has not been filtered, so it will develop sediment in the bottle. I highly recommend decanting it for maximum enjoyment.
